Kath Harmer

Speech and Language Therapist

  • Kath Harmer - The Talking House

Since qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist in July 2015, I have worked for a trust of schools in Leeds to set up and run a successful speech and language therapy service, including detailed assessments, 1:1 and group therapy sessions. I joined the Talking House in September 2016, working mostly in schools but also with some private clients to provide personalised and effective therapy for a wide range of speech, language and communication needs.

I have recently completed my clinical competencies to become a fully certified Speech and Language Therapist, and hope to further my knowledge and experience here at the Talking House. I am particularly interested in all aspects of speech production, and love researching and exploring new techniques to support my clients to achieve their full potential. I also have experience working with teenagers with ASC, which I gained from my work as an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant.

I have completed training courses in Makaton and an introduction to Intensive Interaction. I am also a member of a Specific Language Impairment Special Interest Group, which helps me to keep up-to-date with the latest research and interventions to support children with language impairment.

I love a challenge and finding the most effective way to support my clients, and I enjoy working collaboratively with other members of the team, parents, teachers and healthcare professionals to provide the best possible support. I feel very lucky to be a Speech and Language Therapist, and love to see children’s enthusiasm and confidence growing as they progress in their sessions.
