After qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2013, I provided assessment and therapy for pre-school and school-age children in mainstream schools, special schools and community clinics for the NHS. In 2014, I moved to a school in Leeds where I set up and led a successful speech and language therapy service, became the lead practitioner for autism and delivered training both within the school and to the wider community.
I joined The Talking House in May 2017 to further develop my expertise in supporting children and young people with complex communication needs.
I am dedicated to the ethos that communication is the foundation for learning and became a Speech and Language Therapist to support children and young people to achieve their potential and to raise awareness of communication difficulties. I developed my enthusiasm for working with children and young people with complex needs and autism during my time as a Special Support Assistant at The Percy Hedley Foundation. More recently, I have found a passion for facilitating children and young people with behaviour that challenges to reach their full potential. I relish a challenge and enjoy problem solving to discover effective and motivating intervention for each individual young person. I believe in working with the young person, their family and their school to ensure a holistic approach to maximising potential.
I am a registered Elklan tutor and have experience of leading mainstream schools to Communication Friendly School status. I am trained in the use of Makaton and have practical experience of the Picture Exchange Communication System, Intensive Interaction and the TEACCH approach.
At The Talking House, I work with like-minded people to make a difference to the lives of children and young people with communication needs – what a fantastic job!
