Since qualifying in 2008 as a Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) I have worked as part of a team in the NHS. I joined The Talking House in September 2015. My role involves delivering a high quality, bespoke service to schools and private clients. In addition, I am clinical supervisor for The Talking House and responsible for service delivery.
I have a wealth of experience working directly with children with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties including autism, complex needs and learning disabilities. I have worked in a wide variety of settings, such as homes, mainstream and special schools, where I have set up school programmes and provided staff training. I also have several years of experience working with children with eating, drinking and swallowing impairments.
I love my job and I really enjoy working through the challenges and rewards it brings; there’s nothing better than working alongside families and key adults to support each child to develop their potential.
Autism and complex needs are my specialist areas. I continue to further my knowledge and skills in approaches such as Intensive Interaction and working with children with pre-verbal language skills. I have also completed PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) training. I am really interested in sensory integration and hope to further my expertise in this area.
I love to learn; I’ll never stop! I believe there is lots to learn about the wider world too. I’ve been lucky enough to have travelled around lots of different countries including Australia, New Zealand, Canada and parts of Asia. These opportunities have enabled me to further experience differences between cultures and also to embrace the true diversity of people.
I’m looking forward to working together with The Talking House team to further develop a child- centred, high quality Speech & Language Therapy service.
