As a parent or carer, you are the expert when it comes to your child and you spend more time interacting with them than a Speech and Language Therapist ever will! We always work in partnership with you to ensure that we provide the best support possible.
As part of getting to know your child, we listen to what their aspirations are and what you, as parents or carers, hope for your child to achieve. This can be both in the short term and in the longer term. When making recommendations, we always consider how targets and outcomes can help your child to work towards their overall goals. You will be integral in both the setting and reviewing of these goals and we make sure to involve you every step of the way.
When working with your child, whether that be assessment or therapy, your therapist is likely to give you advice on strategies to use with your child at home. There may be homework tasks to complete and specific resources to help with developing your child’s speech and language skills. These will all be guided by your therapist and regularly reviewed with you. Helping your child to practise their skills is vital in supporting their progress.
