About Us
We are a leading independent Speech and Language Therapy practice based in Wetherby, near Leeds. We deliver a range of Speech and Language Therapy services for toddlers through to young adults across Yorkshire.
For every child that we work with, we are committed to providing the highest quality service with a personal touch.
We pride ourselves on searching out and developing the best techniques to give a completely individual programme and work alongside other professionals to give a holistic approach.
Everyone in The Talking House has a part to play in reaching our common goal which is to give as many children as possible the opportunity to reach their potential, be the best they can be and live life to the full. We strive to challenge the status quo and champion Speech and Language Therapy as a vital service; one that makes a real difference to the lives of children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
Our Story

After many years of working with children and young people in both the NHS and private sector, Julie (our Managing Director) decided to set up The Talking House, her own independent practice, and began seeing children and their families privately.
Julie’s aim for The Talking House was to use her experience, which now spans more than 35 years, to deliver family-focused, research-led best practice.
This started with Julie working from her garden office in 2010 and has now grown to have a team of some of the best Speech and Language Therapists in the region working from our outstanding offices on the Grange Park estate in Wetherby, near Leeds.
Our Mission
“I believe that the way we should measure our success is by the way we touch the lives of others.” ~ Julie Anstey
Our mission is to provide a safe home and a trusted friend for the community to turn to. We pride ourselves in giving professional, reliable and practical advice and support relating to speech, language and communication.
We want to give all children and young people a ‘voice’ so that they can:
- Build relationships
- Think
- Learn
- Create
- Express their needs, wants and desires
- Voice their opinions
- Share ideas
We believe that the ability to communicate is the means through which children and young people achieve freedom.
We want to create a place in which people are:
- Free to be themselves
- Free to grow
- Free to learn
- Free to become the best version of themselves
How we do this
Our aims are to:

- Promote good communication skills with everyone we meet
